Samuel and Anne Hopkins Grand Stairway and Tower

Entering the Mansion from the Porte Cochère, the first experience of the interior would have continued the sense of visiting Italy, with the large mural of the Bay of Naples. This view with the smoking Vesuvius in the background, was a highlight of the Grand Tour. The mural was painted by Augustus Weidenbach (1825–1869), a renowned German muralist who emigrated to Baltimore in 1848.
