Clifton Mansion has been part of Baltimore's story for more than two centuries.
Built in 1802 and transformed by Johns Hopkins after his purchase of the property in 1841, Clifton became both a private retreat and a place connected to the people, conversations, and ideas that shaped Hopkins' extraordinary philanthropic legacy. The estate later became public parkland, and the mansion today continues its tradition of public purpose as the home of Civic Works and through the preservation efforts of Friends of Clifton Mansion.
